LogisticsART is an innovative program designed to train the workers Central Ohio logistics companies need now.

The program is designed to attract, train and retain qualified individuals in the field of Logistics. Fully funded by a $4.6 million dollar Department of Labor grant, the program provides training tailored to meet the workforce needs of businesses at entry to mid-level positions within Warehouse, Distribution, and related Logistics positions.

For Individuals: First, you can go through a three-week training program that gives you the skills to get an entry-level job in logistics fields. Graduates (and those already working in the field) can then take an 11-week 21st Century Skills program, giving you the skills needed to advance your career.

For Businesses: LogisticsART aims to provide a qualified pool of workers to help you grow your business. Graduates of the program are pretrained, prescreened, and ready to add value to your bottom line.

Parking Winter 2011

New Parking Lot to Open Soon

Parking will remain a challenge for students and staff returning to campus for Winter Quarter. However, a new parking lot is under construction near the parking garage and could open during the quarter, weather permitting. This video will show you where it's located, along with parking tips:

Real-time parking updates will be provided from 9:00 a.m. until noon during the first two weeks of classes on Facebook and Twitter.

Winter quarter is here and there's some encouraging news on the parking front. I've been a student here for a year -- so I know how challenging it can be. First the good news.

You may remember the old auto shop on the fringe of campus that had been boarded up for years. That was torn down a few months ago.

In its place they've been building a new parking lot for use by Columbus State students. It's off of Jefferson Avenue not far from the parking garage, so it's easy to find. This new lot will add an additional 300 parking spaces. While it won't eliminate tight parking conditions, it should alleviate it a little. With weather permitting, the new lot will open in sometime in January.

Add that lot to the 100 spaces right next to the garage that opened last quarter, plus the 50 across campus at Grove and Grant -- and you've got about 450 new spaces just for students.

Take a look at the areas shaded in orange on this map. Those are the different student parking areas and they're spread out all around campus. If you arrive during peak times, skip the lots closest to campus since they always fill up early. Instead, look further out.

One option is the overflow parking here at Fort Hayes High School just across I-670. It's open Monday through Thursday and it's just about a five minute walk to campus.

There's also the 28-S lot. It's even a little further out but it's one of last areas to fill up each day. It's a couple of blocks behind the bookstore on Mt. Vernon Avenue. Keep all these options in mind.

And don't forget there's real-time parking updates on Twitter from nine 'til noon during the first two weeks of classes. You'll find it at CSCC-underscore-parking. With the new lots there are now well over five-thousand parking spaces on campus -- including a thousand in the parking garage.

Dr. David Harrison, Columbus State President: Every single graduate here today has an important story on how you got here. There are over 500 stories of perseverance, hard work, academic brilliance, courage, and opportunities realized. Many of our students overcome difficult challenges to persist in their education. They refuse to be denied an opportunity to pursue their dream. Each of these stories has positioned you to start a new, exciting, rewarding chapter in your lives. You’re ready, and we need you out here. On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration at Columbus State: Congratulations!

Larry James, Keynote Speaker: Like many of you when I graduated from college I was eager to do well so I could make a difference for myself, my family and my community. 35 years later I’m still on that journey and at times find the struggle. But the pursuit is well worth it as you’ve experienced here today.

Trevor Winland, Summa Cum Laude Graduate: Looking back at my educational journey up to this point, I now realize how important Columbus State was. Without this institution I may have very well have given up on my education. For this, I’m extremely grateful. To the graduates here today, I want to wish you the best of luck, and hope, above all else, that you never, and I mean never, give up on your dreams or yourselves.

Dr. Michael Snider, Interim Provost: Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the graduating class of Columbus State Community College, autumn quarter, 2010. Graduates, you may now move your tassels to the left side.

Graduate: Oh my gosh, it was so great. The journey is over with school, but back again for my career.

Graduate: It’s amazing, I can’t believe I actually did it. I plan on continuing my education and see where life takes me.

Graduate: It feels great. I feel excellent. I’ve worked hard. I achieved what I needed to achieve. I’m ready to keep going, keep going in life, that’s what I’m ready to do.

Columbus State is rolling out a text message alert system called Rave Mobile Safety, so sign up today to receive these alerts.

You won't be getting commercials. We're using it for emergencies on campus and snow days only.

And the system is more than just text messages. It can already send emergency alerts to your student e-mail. You can also send it to your home email, or get voice messages to your home phone.

The video to the right will show you how to sign up, or you can just visit the Rave Mobile Safety site. Once you get there, just sign in with your regular Columbus State username and password.

(The system is free to students, although your mobile carrier may charge for texts.)

Virtual Escort

The Virtual Escort feature allows you to tell Public Safety when you're walking across campus, so they will know your destination and expected time of arrival.

Watch the video at right for a better explanation of this cool new feature.

Keep in mind, it's important to know the parking lot number if you are walking to your car. More importantly, if you're in a large parking lot or the parking garage, it will help to know what part of the lot you or going to or what floor of the garage where your car is located.

Using the system, you can also send a text message to Public Safety to report suspicious activity. Watch this video for how the feature works. (As in the past, you may also continue to reach them 24/7 at 614-287-2525. For emergencies you should still dial 911.)
